| Without our dogs our houses are cold receptacles for things. Dogs make a fire warmer with their curled presence. They wake us, greet us, protect us, and ultimately carve a place in our hearts and our history. Our reflection, our lives are often referenced in parts defined by the all-too-short-lives of our dogs. |

After having to put the
family dog down, a couple
and their veterinarian
were wondering aloud
about the sad fact that
dogs lives are shorter
than humans. The
couple`s four year old
quietly said, I know why.
Startled they all turned to
him, and what he said was
as profound, as it was
comforting. He said,
People are born so that
they can learn how to live
a good life-like loving
everybody all the time
and being nice, right?
Well dogs already know
how to do that, so they
don`t have to stay as long
